When the Brown School comes online, it will signal the end of new schools for the foreseeable future but it doesn’t bring an end to the work needed on the schools.
A recently completed facilities study spells out $16.4 million in needed repairs and replacements for the Marblehead Public Schools.
“I do want to say the numbers at quick glance are very scary, but do not be alarmed, there is no reason to be alarmed,” said MPS’s Director of Finance Michelle Cresta.

Bringing a new finance team on in the middle of the budget process is a little like being asked to bat cleanup without having seen any of the game. Yet, that is the position the Finance Department is in and they’re taking it in stride.
“I don’t know when I’ve been more excited about anything since I’ve been here,” joked Town Administrator Jason Silva. “They have hit the ground running.”
The town is not only in the middle of budget season, but also an annual financial audit, waiting on certification of free cash from the state and preparing for the annual Town Meeting.
