There s only one game on the NHL betting board for Monday night: a North Division battle between the Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks.
Both teams will look to turn their seasons around after poor starts, with the Canucks 2-5 and coming off back-to-back home losses to the Canadiens, while the Sens are 1-3-1.
VANCOUVER, B.C. - With just eight days remaining until the season opener, the abbreviated NHL training camps don t afford young prospects with much of an opportunity to prove they belong on the big club s roster.
At the onset of training camp, 18 players who appeared in a Utica Comets uniform at some point last season are participating with the Canucks this preseason, many of whom are looking to earn roster spots full-time. We re not going to have a lot of time to make decisions, said Canucks head coach Travis Green. Every young player is a little bit different. Some guys come in and feel comfortable right away and some need some time, need some seasoning to feel comfortable in their surroundings on the ice. It s going to affect them today and we ve got to decide if it s going to affect them in the regular season.
Travis Hamonic is on his way to Vancouver.
With training camp officially kicking off at Rogers Arena today, the Canucks announced that defenceman Travis Hamonic has been signed to a professional tryout contract (PTO).
Hamonic is traveling to Vancouver from Winnipeg, the team revealed, and will begin a seven-day quarantine, in accordance with the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol. Once his quarantine is complete, he will join Canucks camp.
While he doesn’t have a contract for next season, it might just be a matter of time for the 30-year-old free agent defenceman. Though the Canucks are currently $1.5 million over the salary cap, it’s expected that Micheal Ferland will be placed on long term injury reserve (LTIR), giving the team cap relief from his $3.5 million salary.
