NEW ULM Carl Michael Sowers, age 64, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his home in New Ulm.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.
All guests in attendance are required to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.

Carl is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Carrie Sowers of New Ulm; children and grandchildren; David (Nicole) Sowers of New Ulm, their children Paige, Emily, Abigail, and Nolan; Bethany Hutchens of New Ulm, her children William, Hunter, Casey, Brett, and Ava; Daniel (Marja) Sowers of New Ulm, their children Hazel and Grace; Valerie (Wade) Haas of Mead, Nebraska; Cheri Allen of Inver Grove Heights; his brothers, Richard Sowers and Tom Kissner; sister-in-law, Lauraine Sowers of Sleepy Eye; and extended family.

Debbie Morton, spokeswoman for Mercyhurst, said Wednesday that Victor has ended his term as president.
As part of the transition, Mercyhurst alumnus Joseph NeCastro, who serves as chairman of the board of trustees, is assuming day-to-day responsibilities associated with the office until a president has been named, according to a news release from the university.
NeCastro retired in 2016 from Scripps Networks Interactive, ending a nearly 40-year career in senior financial management with a variety of media and telecommunications companies.
NeCastro earned a degree in accounting from Mercyhurst and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
“We’re grateful for President Victor’s contributions to Mercyhurst throughout his tenure. I have great confidence in the exceptional cabinet he has assembled,” NeCastro said in a statement.
That was a given, said her longtime friend and sometimes traveling companion, Jim Huston of Springfield.
Huston said he long-admired Schlich s commitment to the behind-the-scenes work for the annual Molly Schlich International & Independent Film Series that has borne her name since 2011.
There was working with theatre chains and distributors, dealing with pricing and making sure film prints arrived on time and got back to the distributors, moving parts that Huston said he was familiar with when he ran Springfield s Shoestring film series in the 1970s and 80s. A lot of those things, Huston said, are not on people s minds when they go into a theatre to see a film they might like or might hate. Those are all things Molly was doing.
