The Supreme Court heard the oral arguments in Masterpiece Cake shop, the Civil Rights Commission tuesday. Jack phillipss lawyers and respondents, along with their lawyers made their remarks outside the Supreme Court following the orbital oral arguments. I michael ferris. Thediscussion was lively, session was longer than the scheduled hour because there was such interest on all sides of the case. This is the first time in American History where there is serious consideration of compelling people to deliver a message that is contrary to their beliefs. Freedom of speech means the ability to refuse to speak a message you do not agree with and the freedom includes a context where other people might be offended. We recognize, on each side of this question, people will be offended. If that was enough to curtail someones religious freedom are really freedom of speech, this would no longer be the same country founded over 200 years ago. Whate of the big issues is would mandatory everify due to the agricultural industry, where even the industry acknowledges that over half of their workforce is undocumented. That does not mean a necessary know it, but it is true. What would that do to the industry . Would it shut it down . There is this issue circulating around that. The long and short is we support mandatory procedures with certain conditions. Theave negotiated with conservative House Republicans on this issue. I still have my job. It is a new mandate on our members. I wanted to ask you a completely different question. Just before the senate votes for , the Senate Majority leader gave a press conference. He mentioned the trust issue, that the president had poisoned the well. Address if you might looking ahead to after 2016. How might a new president proceed on this issue . You have two fronts to concern yourself with, one is trust. The other is policy. How do you feel that might work with a new president . I that is a

It is one of those great privileges. I get to work my passion, which is working as a public scholar. For me, it means working against wars and occupation and bad foreign policy, mostly by our own government. What does it mean daytoday . I write stuff, i speak, i talk to people. I work in social movements. Brian who pays you . Phyllis i work for the institute of policy studies. It is the longest lasting multiprogressive think tank in the country. Its been around since the early 60s. We raise money partly from foundations and partly from individuals. We do not take any government or corporate money. Brian when people give you money, what
Penn presbyterian. Great doctors, great staff. Reporter 57yearold councilman underwent surgery overnight but he bounced back quickly and askeing to home. He spoke about the terrifying encounter with a knife wielding suspect. The next thing i know hes there next to me with an urgent look on his face. Reporter councilman oh says he realized immediately something was very wrong. And then he punched me in the lower rib which i happen to know what that is so i said, did you just stab me . And he had. I looked down and he had a seive more than a knife it was a seive. He said, keys, car, wallet, cash, everything. He said i want everything. At one point in time he lunched at my, you know, face i had to put my hand up and i got cut across the forearm. Reporter in the middle of the attack council om revealed several men in white car pulled up asking do you need help . But thinking it was the suspect who was in trouble. They took out their smart phones and they were recording what was happening.
