ice. this ice storm in this very large area will knock down so many trees power companies will take weeks to get all of those lines back up. they like to get mutual aid from other states around but all of the other states are going to have something, too. they can t send mutual aid to atlanta to get power lines because augusta will have thousands of trees down. columbia will have thousands of trees down. so will charlotte and raleigh. another round of snow in the winter that just won t quit. and plane cancellations are already starting already, right? i don t think we will get ten percent of the planes in or out of hartsfield tomorrow. there is no chance. it s a snow event for the northeast but the big problem will be the ice event for
phil because he says more is coming and so do i. there s no change in the pattern. here s a look at the radar. we see snow across new york, vermont, new hampshire, some spots in vermont are indicating three inches of snow per hour at times. even out towards the berkshires. we re seeing the frozen. 300,000 people without power in philadelphia. 80,000 around baltimore. there s the snow that s going to come down over a foot in the purple. what we have south of that is the ice event. ice event bringing down power lines, bringing down all of those branches and we ll see power outages here in new york city as well i believe throughout the day as this continues. this is a few more hours of this to go and there s a lot of ice already on the ground. it s snowing like mad in boston. i ll take our viewers there. margaret conley is in boston. reporter: we re expecting to see one to two inches of snow per hour throughout the day today. if you take a look it s coming down heavy. it s wet.

where the ice will be, going right through new york city. new york city tonight starts off as some snow, then you get to an ice storm tomorrow morning, and that s what everybody s panicked about. you can drive on the snow. snowing in kansas city, wichita, oklahoma city, but it s almost impossible to drive on an ice event, and there it goes, right through albany, schenectady, all the way back down into binghamton, syracuse. this is the area of the snow. remember i told you that low, that s where the snow s going to be? not much snow for new york, why? because it s going to be ice. it s going to be about 35 degrees at 3,000 feet. then it s going to be 30 degrees down here. and it s going to rain into this 30-degree air and will be running right through new york city with the ice event, through the poconos as well, through new jersey, connecticut and boston. there goes the low, there goes the snow. it starts off today, snow right through the ohio valley. snows overnight tonight into new y
in the east. it has been cold. they re trying to find punxsutawney phil to make him change his mind. snow is in kansas city and wichita. colder on the east side of the rockies, same as its been. warmer on the west side of the rockies. winter storm warning through tomorrow. new york city doesn t get a snowstorm. new york city gets an ice storm. it s in kansas, parts of eerie, buffalo, syracuse and upstate new york into maine. south of there where we are here, it will be an ice event. ice in baltimore, philadelphia, washington d.c., all the way up to new york city. some ice could be devastating, talking maybe half an inch in darker regions. that will put stress on power lines, and some will fall because of extra weight. there goes the storm. this is the first one, the small one. the nor easter that its on sunday is the one that could put 30 inches of snow somewhere.
