Council echoes residents irked at Walmart lines

(Daily Press File Photo by Geoffrey Plant) Outside Walmart last month, shoppers waited for around 45 minutes to get inside the store, which is still restricted to 75 customers at a time or less under the public health order. Silver City Town Councilor Cynthia Ann Bettison and Mayor Ken Ladner said they have communicated their concerns about the consistently long wait times, especially now that colder weather has arrived, to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Lt. Gov. Howie Morales. During their final meeting of 2020 Tuesday night, Silver City town councilors called out the shortened hours and mandated capacity limits on big box stores that 32 out of New Mexico’s 33 counties must abide by under Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s “red to green” county-by-county system of COVID-19 restrictions.
