NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â A new fundraiser, created by the Metro Historical Commission Foundation and The District, hopes to raise money to help preserve Second Avenue s history as it is rebuilt.
The fundraiser was launched earlier this month to help restore the 150-year-old buildings that were badly damaged during the Christmas Day bombing. There are a number of funds out there to help people, we decided that we really needed to focus on the buildings, Ann Roberts said. Roberts is a preservationist and also the former longtime director of the Metro Historical Commission. Several of the commission s current members credit her with saving Second Avenue from development in the 1980s.

Not only were many of the affected businesses damaged by the blast involved in hospitality, but a lot of the displaced residents of the neighborhood were employees at those same spots. As usual, Nashville helps its own, and groups continue to rally to raise money to aid the physical and emotional recovery of the blocks around Second Avenue.
The DISTRICT Inc. is a nonprofit dedicated to the revitalization of three downtown historic districts Broadway, Second Avenue/Riverfront and Printers Alley. Acting sort of like a tiny chamber of commerce, The DISTRICT has worked to raise awareness of these neighborhoods and promote positive news about what have in the past been considered some pretty seedy parts of town before the renaissance of the 21st century.
