Monday is International Women’s Day, and March is Women’s History Month, so all month long we are celebrating women’s achievements, as well as places that make it possible for women to excel and become what some may call a “boss lady.”
difference. it would make a tremendous difference. my district is the third poorest congressional district in the country. majority of the children in my district are living in poverty. many of the residents across the country nearly half are literally emergency away from you know, striking into poverty and not being able to take care of their basic needs from food to health care to housing. and more and more of our families are struggling. i think one out of four don t even have $400 in their savings account. look, i ve gone through bailout of the banks, bailout of corporations right here in the metro detroit area. i ve seen us trying to uplift them. these various corporations and we have continued to leave our families behind and this is a way to lift them up. and we know over and over again from studies from all across the nation that when we put money back in the pockets of regular american people, that it goes right back into our local economy and to me, that is a

nafta was one of the worst contracts ever negotiated for the american worker. need to renegotiate nafta. nafta. nafta. nafta was the worst thing that ever happened to the state of michigan. there was a point in time before nafta came in where there was a machine shop like this literally on every corner. and the metro detroit area. there were jobs everywhere, people were busy. they were working overtime. the city was thriving from the standpoint that people were employed. manufacturing jobs in michigan have shrunk by a third in recent years. from about 900,000 jobs in the year 2000, to fewer than 600,000 now. now you can drive through the neighborhoods around you see many empty buildings. there s a lot of people that have fallen off of the unemployment roles and have not
particularly in the metro detroit area. a poll showed only one quarter of the electorate knew or thought of mitt romney as a michigander. i think he wants to get that up to 60% or 70% thinking he s a michigander. and if he does, i think it s going to be good for him. another part of our poll, when it comes to the auto bailout, 50% of republicans say it was a bad idea. although, the number that splits a lot wider when you look at the general electorate. but do you think basically the auto bailout is a wash for mitt romney in this primary? or will it have an impact? i do think it s a wash in this primary because his three opponents, gingrich, santorum, and paul take a position not unlike romney s. romney has been more outfront about it. but they have the same attitude on that issue. and that s not going to matter. and if you re an independent or democrat, who do you punish by crossing over and voting in the republican primary?
