Kevin Lee Deates, 60, Hall-of-Famer on and off the field, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2022, doing what defined him: giving. Born on February 11, 1962, to Lee and Kathy Deates, Kevin grew up in Merrill, Wisconsin, and graduated from Merrill High in 1980. He later earned a bachelor’s degree from UW-Stevens Point. An all-state football player in high school, he became an all-American and national champion in college. To him, football fostered the character and spirit of our future leaders. Loretta Anne Zimmerman of Madison, Wisconsin, aged 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Loretta was born in Merrill to Ray and Helene (Wyss) Galipeau in November of 1934. Loretta is survived by her husband Walter Dan, and four children, Mary, Richard (Suzanne), Robert (Julie), and Randall, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and her sister Mary Lou (Albert) Milner, sisters-in-law Darlene (Rueben)Puphal and Shirley (Dave)Hulke, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy C. Walsh, age 85, long time resident of Merrill, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Weston Marshfield Medical Center. Nancy was born to the late Carl and Margaret (Batchelder) Henrichs in Merrill on October 2, 1936. She graduated from Merrill High School. In 1955 Nancy met Martin Walsh at the Badger Theater in Merrill after Martin’s friend set them up on a date. Marty and Nancy exchanged marriage vows on January 21, 1956, in Merrill. He survives.
