The Merizo Pier Project restarted its annual cleanup on Saturday after being dormant last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The coordinator and creator of the Merizo Pier Project, William Naden of Merizo, said the first cleanup was in 2017, with volunteers returning to the pier annually to remove trash from the coral reef and shores.
It isn t a formal organization, but a collective of young residents from Merizo that volunteer to pick up and dive for trash. Volunteers from Americorps and Tokio Pacific Insurance also contributed to the cleanup.
International fighter Frank The Crank Camacho is pushing himself for a good cause by taking part in a 24-hour run/walk challenge on Feb. 12.
Camacho and Matt Sgro, chief executive officer of Guam Time, will be trekking from Merizo Pier all the way to Ritidian Point and everywhere in between from 8 a.m. Feb. 12 to 8 a.m. Feb. 13.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Guam Homeless Coalition. Residents interested in donating can go to guamtime.net.
Camacho spoke to the officials during an Interagency Council on Homelessness and the Office of Homelessness and Poverty Prevention meeting Thursday.
