Some Island residents evacuated from homes overnight due to landslide risk

After the city of Mercer Island learned of a landslide risk due to a leaking underground water pipe, last night residents of about 20 homes near 95th Court Southeast were directed to evacuate their properties until further notice.

MIYFS to host Death Cafe event on March 28 | Mercer Island Reporter

Mercer Island Youth and Family Services (MIYFS) is offering a new national program called Death Cafe — a discussion group where everyone is welcome to come together to have an open and compassionate discussion about death and dying — from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on March 28 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center.

Kelly and Dine will discuss food security at April 2 Rotary meeting

Dr. Peter Kelly and Jennifer Dine of Grow Further will discuss “Food Security in the Face of Climate Change” at the Rotary Club of Mercer Island’s meeting on April 2 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St. The main meeting begins at 12:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome and there is no fee to attend. An optional buffet lunch is available for purchase.
