As Young Adults Continue to Navigate the Challenges Posed by COVID-19, Seize the Awkward is Here to Help

The national, award-winning campaign, a collaboration between the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, The Jed Foundation (JED) and the Ad Council, and created pro bono by creative agency Droga5, is reminding teens and young adults that supporting the mental health of themselves and their friends is an ongoing process, particularly when experiencing the continual impact of COVID-19.

BTS backs National Mental Health Action Day Thursday, 6 May 2021 ‘Behind the Scenes views every day as Mental Health Action Day’ USA - The Behind the Scenes Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Initiative has announced its participation in the Mental Health Action Day, to be held on 20 May in partnership with more than 600 leading brands, non-profit organisations, government agencies, and cultural leaders. Over the past two decades, suicide rates have risen and the COVID pandemic has accelerated the already crisis, giving way to what many mental health professionals have called the “second pandemic”. Though more people than ever are comfortable discussing mental health, finding effective resources and knowing how to get help remains a challenge. Mental Health Action Day is an open-source movement to drive culture from mental health awareness to mental health action.

EastEnders and I May Destroy You help spark record use of BBC Action Line

EastEnders (Andrew Stuart) EastEnders: Secrets from the Square, where the cast discussed storylines relating to bereavement, domestic abuse and child sexual abuse, generated 14,313 visits to the support page Michaela Coel’s hit drama I May Destroy You prompted 24,031 visits. Nick Mason, head of BBC’s audience services, said: “This has been an exceptionally tough year for many people – and one in which the BBC’s role as a public service broadcaster has been more important than ever. “The rise in visits to our support pages shows just how important our Action Line service is”. The Mental Health Action line received 121,161 online visits and calls in 2020, which the BBC said was a 45.8% increase from last year.
