More city buildings open; but wear masks Special to The Oak Ridger The city of Oak Ridge is opening various departments, but still taking some measures to ensure COVID-19 safety. “After more than a year of active efforts to suppress COVID-19, I am announcing the effort to open for business. A review of all city departments and services has been conducted and although not at full capability, the following is a summary of various services,” City Manager Mark Watson stated in a news release. Departmental services are continuing. City officials strongly urge citizens to conduct their business electronically, over the phone, and by mail whenever possible. City facilities will continue operations as below. For the safety of city employees and social distancing for customers, visitors may receive a temperature scan and inquiry about their current health. Regatta season starts next week - Oak Ridge Today

That rowing competition with the University of Louisville is scheduled from March 13-14 at Melton Lake Park. Other rowing events will begin in late April and run almost every weekend through May, a press release said. This year, the Oak Ridge Rowing Association will host, for the first time, the NCAA Division I American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship, the press release said.

(Photo by John Huotari/Oak Ridge Today) The section of South Illinois Avenue between Bethel Valley Road and Lafayette Drive remains closed after a crash knocked over a high-voltage transmission tower on Friday afternoon, the Oak Ridge Police Department said Saturday morning. The ORPD posted a roadway update at 10 a.m. Saturday. Officers advised drivers to seek alternate routes and expect delays. Police expect the road to remain closed throughout the evening. Both northbound and southbound lanes are blocked.
