HOLTVILLE â The Womenâs Club of Holtville recently awarded four local women scholarships at an event held May 5.
The scholarship awards event, which was hosted by Scholarship Chair Mary Jane Kirchenbauer, was the clubâs first meeting since COVID-19 forced us on hiatus last year. Also, this year there is another first: Each of our four outstanding applicants were awarded first place. And, yes, they are that good.Â
Through the years, one of the primary goals of the Womanâs Club has been education. These goals are accomplished through our officers, volunteer members and caring members of the community who respond to fund raising events. This co-operation makes the yearly scholarships, as well as other projects, possible. We wholeheartedly thank the public for their support.

The Register sports staff has turned its attention to the Napa County student-athletes who are returning to play sports in 2020-21.
Baseball, girls lacrosse and softball will be allowed once the area is in the red tier for “substantial” stage; badminton, football, gymnastics, boys lacrosse, soccer, volleyball and water polo when it reaches the “moderate” orange tier; and basketball, competitive cheer and wrestling when it’s a yellow tier and the risk is “minimal.”
“I suspect we’ll move forward with Season 1 having some combination of the low-risk sports cross country, golf, tennis, swim and dive, and track and field. I suppose that means all the other sports move to a second season, when we hopefully have better health data. For the most part, it will be league games only.
