The criminal penalty for possessing small amounts of marijuana would be reduced under a bill OKâd by the Texas House
The measure likely faces an uphill climb in the Senate, where two years ago Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick opposed similar legislation.

The Texas House preliminarily approved a bill that would lower the criminal penalty for possessing small amounts of marijuana and provide a path for many Texans charged with such a crime to expunge it from their criminal records. The bill applies to possession of 1 ounce or less.

MADISON SMITH: Here’s what’s been happening in the headlines. In Evanston, teachers said they were blindsided by the decision to begin hybrid instruction in April, despite months of collaboration between Evanston Township High School/District 202 administrators and the school’s certified staff union.
SHEENA TAN: And the City Council has voted to accept Artist Book House’s proposal for the Harley Clarke Mansion, after years of extensive delays and community-wide debate over its future. The book house hopes to transform the mansion into a literary center.
Northwestern announced adjustments to the contact tracing and quarantine procedure and new COVID-19 updates for Spring Break and Spring Quarter.
The Thursday email from Provost Kathleen Hagerty and Vice President for Student Affairs Julie Payne-Kirchmeier outlined procedures for Spring Break and Spring Quarter. Spring Wildcat Wellness will take place Mar. 29 to April 5, with students required to test negative twice during the period. During and after Spring Break, students living on campus will continue to be required to complete one rapid Abbott test and one Color test a week.
Residence halls and Sargent Dining Commons will also continue to stay open.
