Kids enjoy learning through Iowa Central summer camps

Kids enjoy learning through Iowa Central summer camps by Iowa Central Information Posted on 6/28/2021 Summer break hasn’t stopped kids of various ages from learning on the Iowa Central campus and more. Already through June, campers have taken on understanding the use of momentum, launch and impact, science and agriculture with more to come. The volunteers and superheroes camp will take place June 30 at the Webster County Fairgrounds. Campers will give back to the community while learning with special guest speakers, hands-on activities, games and more. “Seeing the smiles on the faces of each kid says it all,” said Megan Kruse, work-based learning coordinator at Iowa Central Career Connections. “We are wrapping up our elementary and middle school summer camps and appreciate the community support by allowing their children to attend. The students made several comments on how awesome it was to attend face-to-face and meet new friends.

STEAM kits provide fun, learning | News, Sports, Jobs

Worthwhile program should be continued Dec 16, 2020 In some Fort Dodge households, little mechanical critters called hex bugs are slowly working their way through mazes and over bridges. Rockets made of straws are sailing through rooms, perhaps buzzing a snoozing pet or two. And kids are painting with pendulums in an activity designed to bring out their creativity. The gear for all those activities was included in boxes called STEAM kits which were mailed last week to 200 families who signed up for them. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Each box contains items for five activities intended to encourage young people to innovate and practice problem solving skills. Those activities are building bridges for the hex bugs, creating mazes for the hex bugs, building rockets out of straws, painting with a pendulum and putting together paper puzzles called tangrams.
