Biden Admin. Will Fast-Track Cases for Migrant Families Arriving at Border

Biden Admin. Will Fast-Track Cases for Migrant Families Arriving at Border But immigrant advocacy groups say that prioritizing speed could come at the cost of due process Peter Wade, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail The Biden administration announced a new plan that would speed up the hearings process for families who arrive at the U.S. border with Mexico seeking asylum, although advocates are saying this will deny immigrants of their rights. As of Friday, both the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that they will use a new “dedicated docket” process for families who arrive at the border. The goal is to significantly decrease the amount of time it takes for migrants to have their cases adjudicated.

Students protest Aggie Blue Bikes funding decrease — and the administration listens

on February 22, 2021 at 6:48 pm On Thursday, Utah State University Students gathered on the quad to protest a proposed funding decrease for Aggie Blue Bikes. The protest was planned three hours ahead of a student fee board presentation recommending a $10,000 annual revenue reduction for the program. Students biked around the quad, made speeches on the “A” and signed a banner that would be brought to the student fee board meeting later that day. Many students brought painted signs with messages in support of the program such as, “save a horse, ride a bike” and “mobility is essential.” Originally formed to combat Cache Valley’s poor air quality, Aggie Blue Bikes is a program with the goal of getting more people on bikes. Aggie Blue Bikes offers free bike rentals and one-on-one tutorials on bike maintenance to USU students, funded by a student fee of $2.78 each semester.

Froggy Bottom Guitars: "Our entire methodology is created around the concept of flexibility" | Guitar.com

All images: Froggy Bottom Guitars There’s no shortage of manufacturers working in the realm of guitars and related equipment that purport to produce ‘custom made’ goods, to work by hand, or to craft their wares the way it was done in the good old days. Tour the Froggy Bottom workshop, however, and speak to founder Michael Millard and his partner luthiers Eric Goodenough and Andy Mueller, and you really come away with a feel for what such terms should encompass. “Most of what’s always been referred to as ‘hand-made’ in the world of guitars really stretches the meaning of the phrase,” says Millard. “I mean, ‘Come on, guys!’ You know? You can say it all you want, but it doesn’t make it true.”

Biden Administration Releases New Deportation Guidelines For ICE

Biden Administration Releases New Deportation Guidelines For ICE A immigrant refugee camp in Mexico. Image: Youtube/@Vice The Biden administration issued new guidelines to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, restricting when agents can initiate deportations. The guidelines will be in effect for 90 days while ICE develops a long-term plan. According to the memo, deportations can happen to those deemed a national security threat due to terrorism or espionage or who illegally crossed the U.S. border after Nov. 1, 2020. The memo also requires ICE officers to seek approval before deporting anyone that does not qualify under the new guidelines. The order also specifically notes agents are not required to arrest or remove anyone and are expected to “exercise the discretion thoughtfully.”

Cook County Public Defender Amy Campanelli on coalition calling for immigration reform

CHICAGO (WLS) A coalition of public defenders from across the country, including Cook County Public Defender Amy Campanelli, are demanding that the incoming Biden Administration take action on immigration reform. I can imagine many of my clients who are sitting over there facing a criminal case are very fearful of deportation based on if they get convicted, Campanelli said. The Public Defenders Coalition for Immigrant Justice put forth a 10-point plan that includes calling for a one-year moratorium on deportations, pathways to lawful immigration status, ending immigration detention, defunding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and a federally-funded universal representation program.
