Bids for work related to some renovations on Carl Sandburg's main campus in Galesburg were approved Thursday, during the Trustees' monthly meeting. The Board of Trustees accepted a general works bid from River City Construction for $232,000 and bids from Mechanical Services Inc. for plumbing, mechanical, and electrical projects, totaling $398,258. The bids will see the move of the community college's automotive technology program from its current location in Building B to Building G where it'll be housed along with the school's welding, machining, and agriculture programs. Renovations to Building G are expected to begin in late September and be completed in January. Plans for the new two-story building remain within budget, according to the college's architecture firm Farnsworth Group, and it is still expected to open in the fall of 2024.
