A SELF-CONFESSED gaming fanatic has put his digital skills to good to use and raised hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity as well as shaving off his long-standing beard. Jake Hughes, from Winsford, completed a 24-hour livestream gaming marathon in aid of Maggie’s Centres, which provide help and support for people suffering from cancer. The 28-year-old’s mum Deborah is in remission from breast cancer and regularly visits Maggie’s Centre for counselling, yoga and personal training sessions, where she can meet people who are also being treated for or recovering from cancer. Jake’s 24-hour charity challenge was completed over a weekend at the end of February and he was so surprised at how quickly his fundraising total was rising before the event that he also committed to shaving off his beard, which he has had for more than seven years.
