Mushroom Group launches new music podcast Hit Different Hit Different, centred around homegrown music and culture. The weekly series will be hosted by Aussie music journalists Mikey Cahill, Sosefina Fuamoli and Marcus Teague. Each episode, released every Monday, will feature stories and one interview with an artist or music industry figure. “[ Hit Different] answers the how and why, charting the impact of evolving music culture events, serving the hottest tea and digging deeper on music stories with an unparalleled, how-the-f k-did-they-get-them raft of guests using the contact books within the team,” a statement read. The first episode, released yesterday, covers the recent Live At The Bowl concert series in Melbourne, the issue of Aussie artists unable to tour overseas and an interview with Meadow Festival’s Cameron Wade.

Comparisons can be enlightening but they can also be fickle, misdirecting attention and undermining achievements. When I departed Meadow Festival on its last day, the reflections came teeming in and the judgements accumulated. There will always be noise – prior festival experiences thwarting novelty; friends’ opinions clouding perceptions, yet, there isn’t a more authentic and organic way to lend your assessment to something than by judging it on its merits. That’s what I’ll be doing with this piece – removing likenesses and wandering narratives to give Meadow its own lane, for which it deserves.
