OXFORD Springville came up a little short on Saturday evening with a Class 6A state softball championship on the line.
After going 3-0 on Friday in the opening rounds of the state tournament, the fourth-ranked Tigers dropped a pair of games to No. 6 Hazel Green 10-0 and 9-5 to finish as the 2021 runner-up in their first season competing in Class 6A.

Head coach Brandon Easterwood’s team finishes the year at 39-12 with an Area 13 championship to go with an East Central Regional championship.
OXFORD Springville is one win away from its fifth state softball championship.
Three straight comeback wins on Friday in the first day of Class 6A state tournament action has put the fourth-ranked Tigers (39-10) in the championship series on Saturday at Choccolocco Park in Oxford. Their opponent will be either Helena, Mortimer Jordan or Hazel Green.

Springville, following a championship run through the East Central Regional last week, started its state tournament climb with a 10-3 win over Saraland on Friday morning. Head coach Brandon Easterwood’s club then notched two winner’s bracket victories over top-ranked Athens and No. 6 Hazel Green.

MONTGOMERY The fourth-ranked Springville softball team opened up its Class 6A East Central Regional run on Wednesday afternoon with an extra innings win over Gardendale, as freshman Bella Bullington knocked the walk-off home run to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The freshman’s timely shot sent her Tigers into the winner’s bracket with a 2-1 victory over the Rockets.

Her only hit finished Springville’s first game in Lagoon Park with six total hits, matching Gardendale’s output.

A pair of local softball teams have swept through their respective area tournaments this week, with Class 7A Hewitt-Trussville winning the Area 6 crown and Class 6A Springville cruising to an Area 13 title.

Class 7A, Area 6 Tournament
The Vestavia Hills Rebels ran into a big red wall of offense on Friday in the Class 7A, Area 6 tournament championship game at Spain Park High School. The wall came in the shape of a Hewitt-Trussville Husky and its foundation sophomore Kenleigh Cahalan was quite strong.
