In a combustible affair at the Etihad Stadium, the Algerian lit the blue touch paper just after the ten-minute mark when he followed up on Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected effort to tap home after a devastating counter.
And in a mirror image of the opening goal, the Algerian made it two just after the hour, smashing home Phil Foden’s square ball high into the net as PSG committed bodies forward.
Things then went from bad to worse for the visitors five minutes later, when Angel Di Maria was shown a straight red for kicking out at City skipper Fernandinho.
The Algerian’s curling effort found a gap in the hosts’ wall with 20 to play to deservedly put City ahead in the French capital, building on Kevin De Bruyne’s 64th minute equaliser.
And while the winger felt we were full value for the victory, in which he put in a typically sparkling display, he admitted that there was a hint of fortune in his winning strike.
Mahrez also joked that he received a helping hand from one of his City teammates, who predicted before kick-off that the Algerian would get his name on the scoresheet.
“Yes it’s because of Ben (Benjamin Mendy), he asked God, and God gave me this goal,” he said in jest after the match.

Who gets the nod in your City team of the season?
With the Carabao Cup already secured, City are also tantalisingly close to claiming a third Premier League title in four years.
And beyond our domestic success, Pep Guardiola’s men also find themselves in the semi-finals of the Champions League for only the second time in our history, locking horns with last season’s runners up, Paris Saint-Germain.
There is still plenty to play for before the season draws to a close but, as we approach the end of the 20/21 campaign, we re asking Official Supporters Club members to vote for their team of the season.

Rodrigo believes City’s best chance of reaching the Champions League semi-finals requires the squad to focus on our own game, rather than on Borussia Dortmund s.
Pep Guardiola’s men welcome Dortmund to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 6 April in the first leg of our last eight clash, with the reverse fixture taking place the following Wednesday.
The German outfit have saved their best form this season for a European setting, losing just one of their eight matches so far this campaign while being spearheaded by the tournament’s leading scorer, Erling Haaland.
