OTHELLO Othello School District officials anticipate district enrollment for 2023-24 school year to be the equivalent of about 4,463 students, a decrease of seven students from actual enrollment in the 2022-23 school year. The preliminary budget was presented to Othello School Board members at the Aug. 14 meeting.
OTHELLO Sandhill cranes have a special meaning for Debb Reiley.
Reiley lives in Seattle now but spent 30 years in Alaska, the summer range for sandhill cranes.
“The sandhill cranes would land by my house,” she said. The flocks would take flight early in the morning. “I would wake up, listen to them go overhead.” .

OTHELLO – The Othello Sandhill Crane festival begins today and runs through the weekend.
Visitors to the area can stop by and help organizers celebrate the silver anniversary of the festival that celebrates the return of Sandhill Cranes to the Columbia Basin. Advanced registration is available at www.othellosandhillcranefestival.org.
Festival events are hosted via the Othello Nazarene Chruch at 835 S. 10th Avenue and McFarland Middle School at 790 S. 10th Avenue in Othello.
Events include a crane photo workshop, Rimrock Trail Hike, Potholes Reservoir Boat Birding Tour and several others with various costs associated.
