Eureka city council removed a ceasefire resolution from their agenda earlier this week; activists in Tuesday’s meeting called again on the council to pass it. Councilmembers said a ceasefire resolution would perpetuate divisiveness and questioned whether council was the appropriate place for the resolution.
Eureka Police Department Chief Todd Jarvis is retiring effective Jan. 4, according to an announcement today from the city, with Assistant Chief Brian Stephens slated.
A town hall for substance use disorder is planned for Dec. 2 in Eureka. Organizers hope to destigmatize the disorder with education, and a panel will answer questions from attendees.
