McDaniel brings positive news to Canton Council Canton Daily Ledger CANTON-Spoon River Partnership for Economic Development (SRPED) Executive Director, Cole McDaniel, presented positive updates to Canton Council Tuesday during their regular meeting. “I have some exciting updates. There is a lot going on right now.” McDaniel noted Arby’s closed on the property they intend to build a new restaurant located on N. Main. Previously there was a tattoo shop there. McDaniel said he would keep the council abreast of the timeline for breaking ground to building and opening as well as job creation. Casey’s has closed on property located at 5th and Chestnut. McDaniel said initial work is expected to begin this spring.

Rancher David Smith, and his father before him, acquired paid permits from the Town to graze cattle on the property during specific periods each year. Smith’s cows have been on the property in spring during calving, and again in the fall.
