RAPID CITY, S.D. While they’re on the frontline of the pandemic, there is a surprisingly large number of health care workers around the country refusing the COVID vaccine.
Recently there has been a growing number of hospitals requiring healthcare workers to get vaccinated, or get another job, and that hasn’t gone over well everywhere. Although the move is part of an effort to keep patients and other workers safe, like the general population, health care workers want a choice concerning vaccinations. In Texas, 117 workers from the Houston Methodist Hospital filed a lawsuit claiming their suspension constituted wrongful termination, following their refusal to be vaccinated. The case was rejected, allowing the hospital to terminate those individuals, but it’s not an issue South Dakota is likely to see anytime soon.

PHOENIX – A top Arizona health official on Wednesday said the number of COVID-19 cases in the state is “definitely trending in the right direction,” but he cautioned that “we need to keep following guidelines.”
“We need to keep wearing masks, and we need to keep staying separated,” Dr. Joshua LaBaer, the director of the Arizona State University Biodesign Institute, said Wednesday at his weekly briefing.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases reported daily by the Department of Health Services is dropping. For example, the state in January reported more than 10,000 cases a day for several days. That number has hovered below 5,000 this week.
