is forcing people to choose, people like the mersers, the billionaire family which has bankrolled steve bannon for a long time, forcing people to choose in a way between the president and steve bannon right now. do we have a sense of who people are choosing? which side they re going on? it looks clear people are mostly choosing the president. bannon had a few things. he had three things going into this. proximity to trump, he s lost that, he had the backing of mega donors mercer family, seems he s lost that, and right now all he has is his perks as executive chairman at breitbart. if he loses that it s hard to see how he stays relevant or influential. steve bannon says the presidency is over. he says some of trump s kids might end up indicted or in jail. maybe bannon is being punished for telling the truth. steve bannon talks a lot to a lot of people. so it could be a threat long term. could be leaking right now. for the white house. great to have you with us right
coordinated. driving a calendar to be sure. and there will always be people that need one-on-one access with the principle and you don t have to be there. if you are going to be there for all of that you will never get your own job done. let s take some examples, kushner, maybe ivanka, maybe bannon, maybe mcmasters, they need one-on-one access. what kelly needs is when they walk out of that office, they come by and tell him hey, this is what the boss said so he understands if any decisions were made if there is something that s different that s happening as a result of it, just keep him informed. he drives the whole agenda. he doesn t sit on top of it and be a gate keeper as people are talking about. the president has to be the president. he has to be his own operating style. wants to have one-on-one meetings with scaramucci. that s fine. kelly is not going to sit there and monitor that meeting. he has his own job to do. that s the way do you it he is going to bring leadership to that
worked out? we know the specifics. he tied 16 years before the war started. st what do i think about the rambling through history? someone has argued to president trump that he is like andrew jackson. he doesn t know much about andrew jackson. and he mentioned an true jackson in the middle of an interview. what s really interesting here is it s a reminder of how important for presidents to know a little history. most of our presidents have studied history in that they read it. what do you think he s getting this from? maybe bannon. i don t know. but he did lead a populist movement. andrew jackson is noted for having led a populist movement into the white house. until the richard nixon, republicans didn t talk about andrew jackson. he was a democratic hero. richard nixon starts that trend.
i feel like we re in a better place than we had been particularly with respect to china being more helpful. congressman, david ignatius has a question for you. congressman, let me ask you to look inside this white house and the political balance. it seemed to many of us three weeks ago that steve bannon hard right economic nationalist was on his way out and a chance after the failure of the health care bill for the kinds of moderate voices that you represent to have more say. now it looks as if maybe bannon is back on top. is that your impression? well, i don t know. i do know that i m going to have an opportunity this week our tuesday group will have a chance to meet with secretary mnuchin to discuss tax reform. on these big issues, tax reform, it looks like mnuchin is driving the train on that particular issue. i can t speak to the dynamics inside the white house. there s a lot of maneuvering
