The offense came to life for the South Bend Cubs (11-12) Sunday night, as they salvaged a series-split, beating the Fort Wayne TinCaps (10-13) by a final of 12-2.
Tyler Durna (4-5, HR, 4 R, 3 RBI), Nelson Velazquez (2-5, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Bryce Windham (2-4, HR, R, 3 RBI) all homered and after the Cubs scored just one run in the last two games, they broke out for 18 hits and 12 runs Sunday night.
Velazquez now leads the team with three long balls after his two-run shot in the third inning, and Windham’s homer was the first of his professional career.

BELOIT, WI – The South Bend Cubs (2-5) dropped their fifth straight game Wednesday night, losing 8-3 to the Beloit Snappers (4-4) despite getting out to an early 2-0 lead.
The bottom of the order got things going in the third with Scott McKeon getting hit by a pitch and Reivaj Garcia singling down the line in left to start the inning. DJ Artis doubled in a run in his first game back with South Bend after starting the year in triple-a Iowa. Delvin Zinn followed by driving in Garcia on a sacrifice fly to center to make it 2-0.
South Bend Cubs win second straight May 6, 2021

Despite being held to two hits on Wednesday night, the South Bend Cubs scraped out a hard fought 4-3 victory to move to 2-0 on the season. The Cubs registered their 11th straight win dating back to last season.
It was a double dip of debuts on the mound as the number four overall pick from the 2020 draft, Asa Lacy, took the mound for the River Bandits in his first appearance in professional baseball, and Chris Kachmar toed the rubber for the Cubs in his South Bend debut.
