get there. good evening, i m ryan yamamoto. i m elizabeth cook. we begin with a couple of close calls on the fire watch today. first to vallejo where crews surrounded a house fire to keep the flames from spreading on el dorado street. eventually the roof partially collapsed. there were multiple live power lines down. no reports of injuries right now or how the fire started. earlier, a grass fire briefly forced evacuations in one rodeo neighborhood near interstate 80 and rodeo creek. paul heggen, the heat certainly didn t help. no, and the firefighters had to battle the conditions with their equipment. when the temperatures are close to 100 degrees, it becomes a problem in terms of the conditions they re battling but also how much the fire fuels are drying out. it was hot inland. livermore got up to 102 degrees downtown, a new record for today. 98 in concord, ties a record. 97 in downtown santa rosa. 93, san jose. upper 70s in san francisco. mid-60s along the coast. stil
fuels are even dryer than where they are in the bay area. this all seems a little early in the season for this, keep in mind we ve had mostly dry winters since january 1. the fire fuels are at about normal dryness thanks to rainfall around the bay area, but significantly above the dryness levels, what s typical throughout the central valley. and it s not a situation likely to improve. just got a new three-month outlook from the climate prediction center for june, july and august. and a significant chance of above average temperatures not just in california, but most of the western u.s. we ve already seen significant wildfires in new mexico and texas, and above average temperatures are becoming the new normal thanks to the influence of climate change. we will take a look at the short-term forecast, what s going happen with the wind speeds through tonight and tomorrow, coming up in just a few minutes. well, a new study shows fires are getting harder to fight at night because
