Mauricio Eduardo Johnson
A search warrant affidavit issued by the Utah State Bureau of Investigations has brought to light new details regarding the February 10 Bear River Rancheria triple homicide including the events that led up to the killings, suspect Mauricio Sanchez-Johnson’s subsequent actions, and his flight from law enforcement.
According to the search warrant affidavit, on the morning of Wednesday, February 10, a 13-year-old identified as “Jane Doe-1” called 911 telling the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center saying she had found “her mother, sister, and father bleeding out” in a bedroom of the residence located [on] Carroll Road.”
Mauricio Sanchez-Johnson
Mauricio Sanchez-Johnson, the suspect in this month’s Bear River Rancheria triple homicide, and Von Eric Keener, the man who fled with Sanchez-Johnson after the crime, both appeared yesterday virtually in the 3rd District courtroom of Tooele County, Utah presided over by Judge Dianna Gibson.
When it was 18-year-old Sanchez-Johnson’s turn to sit before Judge Gibson, the corrections officer could be heard asking another, “Can you grab the kid?” Sanchez-Johnson subsequently appeared alongside Public Defender Brad Schofield who requested time to be able to meet with his client because “I was just assigned the case yesterday.”
Judge Gibson approved the request and scheduled the next hearing for March 2, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. In response, Sanchez-Johnson simply replied, “Alright.”
Von Eric Keener
A local man arrested in Utah with triple-murder suspect Mauricio Eduardo Johnson was arraigned in a Utah court today on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
Von Eric Keener, 46, appeared via video before Judge Dianna Gibson in Third District Court, Tooele County. Gibson told Keener he is a charged with being a fugitive, and he has “a no-bail warrant out of California.”
“OK,” Keener responded.
Asked if he wanted an attorney, Keener said “I have no job. Am I going to need an attorney, or are they just going to come and pick me up?”
