The first incumbent councillor representing any ward filed for re-election this week.
With Monday, Jan. 4 marking the first day of 2021 that allowed candidates to file for this year’s municipal election, Ward 1 Coun. Robert Parks was quick off the hop.

This time next year, those sitting on the Strathcona County council bench could look a lot different, given it will be a civic election year.
In about 10 months, county residents will have their chance to vote for a ward councillor and mayor in the 2021 municipal election and nominations for candidates are opening soon. Those interested in running for mayor or councillor can submit their nomination application on Jan. 4, 2021.

Election Day is set for Oct. 18, 2021.

“The project is more challenging than even we thought it would be,” said Rod Parker, president of Parker Johnston, a Victoria roofing company dating back to 1950 through three generations. “Even with 70 years of experience, a lack of historical comparisons made the estimating and installation tough,” Parker said. “We’re extremely happy with the finished product and proud of the tradespeople who work with us who ultimately make these things possible.” Chris Ryzuk, a retired geotechnical engineer and parishioner of the Catholic cathedral, said the new roof is valued at about $500,000. It has been planned since 2011, and got underway in July after the parish completed extensive studies on materials, costs and various approvals.
