The family of Pete Rosengren, a Batavia man who died while saving children caught in a rip current last year, on Tuesday received a rare Carnegie Hero Medal posthumously recognizing his bravery.

Peter Rosengren, a Daily Herald executive, died Sunday saving kids from a powerful rip current, racing into the Gulf of Mexico to help get his three boys and other children to safety. It was brave, and selfless. Above all, though, it was the right thing to do.
