Swiss officials have identified the remains of a German climber who went missing in 1986 through DNA testing and forensic analysis. The discovery highlights the impact of climate change; as glaciers recede, lost items and remains that have been hidden for ages resurface. Though the identification brings closure to the climber s loved ones, Swiss authorities have chosen not to reveal the individual s name. Therefore, the clue left behind was that the person had distinctive red laces on his hiking boots. Switzerland has experienced an alarming loss of 6% of its glacier volume in 2022 due to the accelerated melting rate which is nearly double compared to 2003.
