Walker/Globe Staff For Catholics, it’s tradition to receive ashes in the shape of a cross on your forehead on Ash Wednesday. But due to concerns about spreading the coronavirus, that ritual to mark the start of Lent has been tweaked. This year, priests were directed to avoid physical contact with parishioners. They were supposed to remain silent and sprinkle ashes on top of heads. And everyone was required to wear masks, according to revised protocols posted on the Archdiocese of Boston’s website.
