Sylva, disclosed this at the inauguration of the Nigerian Women for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) project, organised by the National Centre for Women’s Development (NCWD), Zigma Gas Limited and Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources on Friday in Abuja. The minister, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on LPG, Brenda Ataga, emphasised on healthy alternative to firewood as fuel for cooking because it is a clean source of energy.

The DG, who stated this in Abuja on Monday during the commemoration of the 2021 International Women’s Day (IWD) with the theme ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world’ and with the campaign theme ‘Choose to challenge’, said contrary to wide beliefs that women vote more than men, only 11,897,180 voted in the 2019 general election. She said regrettably, the representation of women both at elective and appointive positions has continued to deteriorate, adding that due patriarchy, political violence and insurgency, the continuous violence before and after election have plummeted the number of women casting their votes.

FG empowers 600 South-South women with start-up kits, seed grants On By Ike Uchechukwu, Calabar About 600 women from the South-South region have received start-up kits and seed-grants from the Federal Government through the National Centre for Women Development as part of efforts to cushion the effect of COVID-19 and uplift their living standard. According to the Director-General of the National Center for Women Development, Mrs Mary Ekpere-Eta beneficiaries are graduates of the Post-Covid training for Innovation and Empowerment in the South-south zone of the Federation and the Kasuk Project organized by her agency. She said that the beneficiaries were trained for two weeks on various vocational skills designed by the Federal Government to expose and equip women and youths economically to confront the post-covid-19 era.
