nothing. in my view, this entire fire drill was completely and totally unnecessary. last night, the senate passed a stopgap measure to fund the government through november. the two sides had been fighting over a bill that includes disaster relief funds. but it wasn t a bipartisan compromise that ended the standoff. it was an announcement by fema saying it didn t need the extra money offer all. republicanes and democrats have been fighting for weeks over the extra funding. the agreement will ensure there s no areas in need of assistance battered by hurricane irene and last week s tornados in missouri. the government will be able to run normally when the new budget year begins on saturday. it s not a done deal quite yet. the republican-controlled house needs to approve the bill. there is still one issue, the house is on recess this week. so if the members can t agree to pass it on unanimous consent, lawmakers may be called back in to pass it. susan, we keep getting tempor
