Planning For The Future Of Marine Farming

The public consultation process closes on 26 February 2021. Variations 1 (marine farming) and 1A (finfish farming) to the environment plan were publicly notified in early December. This came after two years of work by the Marlborough Aquaculture Review Working Group (MARWG). The MARWG included members of the marine farming industry, Marlborough Sounds’ community organisations and central government agencies. The Ministers of Fisheries, Conservation, Environment and Transport, along with Te Tau Ihu iwi were also consulted. Planning, Finance & Community Committee Chair Councillor Mark Peters encouraged anyone with an interest in marine or finfish farming, or the Marlborough Sounds, to make their views on the proposals

The many strange names of New Zealand: From Wet Jacket Arm to Hoon Hay, what's with our oddball place names?

The many strange names of New Zealand: From Wet Jacket Arm to Hoon Hay, what s with our oddball place names? 8 Jan, 2021 04:00 PM 15 minutes to read The name Waikikamukau ( Why kick a moo cow ) has become a running joke in New Zealand for any tiny, rural town. Photo / Herald graphic Karolin Potter doesn t laugh as much now when she takes the slow sweep south along Lyttelton Street before crossing the Heathcote River and leaving her home suburb of Spreydon for neighbouring Hoon Hay. She used to. I m not a Christchurch native, so when we moved here we thought it was absolutely hilarious. Hoon Hay - what a name!

Balloon Juice | On The Road - Albatrossity

Starting tonight, for this week and next week:  Ghosts of Holidays Past.  Send in your photos!  You can send a full set with the On the Road form, or just send one or two that will go into a group post.  Be sure to include some text so we know what we’re looking at.  If you want to send photos but not have them identified as yours, let me know that, too. Albatrossity I have been fortunate to visit New Zealand 5 times. The first in the early 1990’s, to attend a scientific conference, and it was in August (mid-winter in the Antipodes). I remember marveling at the cold drippy weather, the American TV shows that seemed popular there (e.g., WKRP in Cincinnati, why?), and the fact that sporting events being broadcast included lots and lots of sheep dog trials. The people were incredibly friendly, the scientific conference was productive, and I wanted to go back sometime.

Christmas travel? It's all still red and white

Christmas travel? It s all still red and white Christmas travel? It s all still red and white December 21, 2020 9.00pm Normal text size Advertisement If nothing else, COVID-19 is bringing out our creative sides. Belinda Coombs of Ermington asks: “Is anyone else doing this? Unwilling to travel anywhere at present, I’ve found myself travelling by wine region at the local bottle shop. Purchases from the Barossa, Marlborough Sound, Tasmania, Margaret River etc result in fine accompaniments for dinner (or lunch) and add the regions to our bucket list of places to visit when COVID is brought under full control.” Fellow oenophile John Walter of Atlanta (USA) says: “In order to assist in the trade war, we are only buying Australian wines for Christmas. At the current rate of purchase and consumption, we may need the container from China by new year.”
