SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. Central Valley School District is bringing more students into the classroom on Monday. It comes the same day as thousands of Spokane Public Schools middle and high school students also return to school in-person.
Marla Nunberg, a spokesperson for CVSD, told KREM what is changing and how they plan to keep everyone safe.
What is changing?
Most Middle and High School students in the Central Valley School District have been back in the building on an A, B, C, D hybrid model. That means students were put in four groups so each student had one day of in-person learning a week. One day a week was a dedicated online learning day for every one.

“It’s been tough to make those connections,” said Mike Conklin, Teacher at University High School.
Connection It’s something all of us have been missing during the course of this pandemic.
“Some days I wouldn’t interact with another human being in the building. I’d go eat lunch in my office by myself, listen to a podcast,” said Conklin.
Conklin has been a teacher for nearly 25 years.
“When I see a student 10 or 15 years later, I can still hear that voice and picture their face,” said Conklin.
“It’s finally time,” said Xander.
Well, almost time. As a fourth grader, Xander gets to head back to class on January 14th in the Central Valley School District.
Kindergarten through third grades were phased in before winter break.
“I was praying before the school year started but my mom told me they’re probably going to do online and then I’m like ‘aw, come on,’” said Xander.
While fourth graders make their return in mid-January, fifth graders will actually have to wait a little longer. Sixth graders are scheduled to return on January 14th, as well, pending the Spokane Regional Health District’s approval.
