BERLIN - Julian Nagelsmann is set to join 2020 treble winners Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig as the successor of departing Hansi Flick for an estimated 23 million euros.
The reported transfer fee exceeds the 7.5 million euros paid by Borussia Monchengladbach for Frankfurt coach Adi Hutter, and also that of Andre Villas-Boas, who joined Chelsea from Porto in 2011 for 15 million euros.
Five years after being appointed coach of TSG Hoffenheim at the age of just 28, Nagelsmann requested to leave RB Leipzig despite having a valid contract until 2023.

Leipzig, April 26 : Julian Nagelsmann appears to be Bayern Munich s first choice to replace coach Hansi Flick. The 33-year-old has indicated his desire to leave current club RB Leipzig.
Nagelsmann has asked to be released from his contract, reports DPA.
That would leave only an agreement between the clubs to be signed with Leipzig demanding a fee of 30 million euros for their coach.
Berlin (AFP) – RB Leipzig’s sporting director Markus Kroesche will leave the club at the end of the season, the German Bundesliga side announced on Monday.
There has been intense speculation about the future of Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann in recent days, with Kicker reporting he has asked the club to terminate his contract so he can join Bayern Munich.
Leipzig said that Kroesche would leave after “intensive discussions regarding the club’s future”.
“RB Leipzig and sporting director Markus Kroesche have mutually come to the decision to end their collaboration and terminate Kroesche’s contract by mutual agreement at the end of the 2020/21 season. The contract originally ran until 2022,” the club said in a statement.
RB Leipzig sign Monaco loanee Henrichs on permanent deal Berlin (AFP) – Bundesliga high-fliers RB Leipzig confirmed Monday they have signed Monaco loanee Benjamin Henrichs on a permanent deal.
Henrichs, 24, has spent 2020/21 on loan in Leipzig, but the German club has given him a contract until 2025 after he made his 15th appearance this season and set up a goal in Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing of Werder Bremen.
The transfer fee is reportedly around 15 million euros ($18 million).
After missing three months this season with a knee injury, Henrichs said he wants to help second-placed Leizpig break Bayern Munich’s iron-grip on the Bundesliga title.
