Bayonne Bridge traffic stopped while cops rescue stranded possums
Updated Apr 15, 2021;
Thursday was animal rescue day for Port Authority police.
Prior to officers pulling a Pomeranian’s paw out of a moving escalator at the Journal Square PATH station in Jersey City, another group of Port Authority police officers plucked a pair of possums out of the right lane of the Bayonne Bridge.
Officers Michael Latif and Kenneth Sanginari found a possum in the right lane of the bridge Thursday after it was reported to the police department’s Staten Island Bridge Command at 10:22 a.m., officials said. They blocked the right lane of the bridge until the PAPD’s Emergency Service Unit could arrive.
