Poll: Most US Latinos speak Spanish; those who don't shamed | National & World News

A new Pew Research Center analysis highlights how Latino identity is intertwined with views about Spanish. It found that about half of U.S. Latinos who don’t speak Spanish have been shamed by other Latinos because of it. On one hand, Pew found that 85% of all Latinos — including foreign and U.S.-born — say it’s important for future generations of Latinos in the U.S. to speak Spanish. But on the other hand, most Latino adults (78%) say it is not necessary to speak Spanish to be considered Latino.
