Whilst most people huddled indoors in the warmth during the snow last Saturday, a handful of Drogheda runners braved the elements to complete a gruelling 50k run in the freezing conditions.
Rebecca Carolan, Nicola Veale and Mark Dowling - all hardy members of Boyne Athletics Club - took on the challenge last Saturday morning, with temperatures well below zero, and treacherous conditions underfoot. We started at 7.30am in very heavy snow, which eased off and turned to slush after a couple of hours, but they were very challenging conditions underfoot, explains Rebecca, who began running seven years ago. We ran a 5k loop towards Oldbridge and back ten times and I ran with my training partner Nicola,while Mark ran ahead, ensuring all covid guidelines were followed .
