The 24-year-old Atlanta rapper stays off social media (“I always let my phone die,” he often remarks in interviews), and he rarely says anything outlandish enough to end up in headlines on gossip sites. Still, everyone has strong opinions about the way he makes music. Since emerging on SoundCloud with songs like “YUNGXANHOE” and “Broke Boi” in the mid-2010s, he has defied the traditional conventions of rap music in a way that pisses off hip-hop purists with as much intensity as it excites anyone in search of something new. Carti has assumed the role of rap’s latest disruptive lightning rod, sparking conversations about how the genre should (and shouldn’t) evolve next.

“Yeah!” he shouts. “Guess what y’all? That nigga Playboi Carti dropping! Yeah nigga apply pressure, nigga. Yeah! Finally, I can go back to my rockstar shit! Fuck yeah! I hope everybody enjoys this nigga’s album because I went all hard to get it for us. Yeah!”

Mario Judah has gone viral this month for demanding Playboi Carti release his
Whole Lotta Red album, but the Atlanta rapper is truly focused on his own career. Back in 2017, Mario Judah began making beats at his home in Atlanta, working with artists to build up his name and experience. By January of 2020, he was jaded and tired of collaborating with acts who weren t as dedicated as he was, so he took the next step and became an artist himself.
His friends urged him to release music for months, but Mario didn t budge until this past June. That s when he finally dropped Crush, a song he says he released because the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic made him embrace the moment. Best described as equal parts trap rap and hard rock, Mario combines the content of a rapper and the wailing vocal approach of a rock star with modern 808s.

Die Lit rapper once more, and this time, he’s unleashing his version of
Whole Lotta Red in full if Carti doesn’t show up on Christmas Day.
“Carti: mY b3sT w0rk YET,” Judah wrote on Twitter mimicking Carti’s tweet from earlier that day. “Judah: on satan it better be…cuz if u drop and it’s completely ass just like @ meh…then I’m dropping the rest of WLR…f ck a part 2…the whole album coming out…u better come with that heat buddy.”
