Health bosses say plans are in hand to cut the marathon waits women in the far north are having to endure for gynaecological treatment.
Local health watchdogs have been highlighting the plight faced by some who are having to live with daily pain, with one woman having waited two years for a hysterectomy.
They claim the service has been in decline since the maternity unit at Caithness General in Wick was downgraded in November 2016.
And they have accused the health board of intending to centralise its gynaecological service in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, to the detriment of outlying areas.

North MSPs want obstetric support for Caithness maternity unit
That was said by Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, Rhoda Grant, at a virtual meeting of the Scottish Parliament s Petitions Committee which was considering a submission lodged by Maria Aitken on behalf of the Caithness Health Action Team (Chat). The campaign group wants a review of maternity services in remote and rural areas.
Many women in the far north have to give birth at Raigmore hospital in the Highland captial following the downgrading of the Wick unit from a consultant to a midwife-led facility a number of years ago.

MATERNITY care in Caithness and other rural areas of Scotland is being looked at by the Scottish Government.
It confirmed that transfer arrangements for pregnant woman who have to travel over 100 miles to give birth are being assessed as part of a review.
The news comes after a petition was lodged by the Caithness Health Action Team (Chat) calling on the Scottish Government to review maternity care in rural areas. The petition â lodged by Chat secretary Maria Aitken â was backed in the Scottish Parliament and described as really important by Highlands and Islands Labour MSP Rhoda Grant.
