More than 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrive in the Philippines through the COVAX Facility Format Joint press statement of the Department of Health, World Health Organization and UNICEF Manila, 8 May 2021 More than 2 million doses of AstraZeneca have arrived in the Philippines from the COVAX facility, the international partnership established to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. This shipment is in addition to half a million doses delivered in March and is part of the 4.5 million total doses committed to the Philippines from COVAX. “Now that these 2 million vaccine doses have arrived, we urge our kababayans to get their second dose of AstraZeneca vaccines. If you are already in the priority group but have not yet registered with your LGU, please contact your LGU or barangay to get vaccinated. Vaccination is our additional armament against the severe form of COVID-19 and will help decrease hospitalizations.

High-level dialogue urges increased protection for children amid COVID-19 Format MANILA, 12 APRIL 2021 – The Government of the Philippines held a high-level dialogue with the United Nations Special Representative on Violence Against Children (VAC), Dr. Najat Maalla. Special Representatives are independent experts appointed by the UN Secretary-General to mobilize action and political support to achieve progress. Violence Against Children takes many forms. It can be physical, emotional, or sexual. It happens in all countries and any setting – in a child s home, community, school and online. In the Philippines, even before the pandemic, children experienced high prevalence of violence whether at home, in school, workplace, community or during dating, according to the 2015 National Baseline Study on Violence against Children by the Council for the Welfare of Children and UNICEF Philippines.

Philippines welcomes the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines via COVAX facility Format Joint press release by DOH, UNICEF, WHO, GAVI, CEPI 04 March 2021, Manila - Today, more than 480,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived in the Philippines from the COVAX Facility, the international partnership established to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. The Philippines is among the first countries in Southeast Asia to receive vaccines from the COVAX Facility. COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), working in partnership with UNICEF as well as the World Bank, civil society organisations, manufacturers, and others.
