Two men in a small boat decided to come out and watch and almost didnt get to go home. This is what is left of their small boat, wrecked on the jetty and still not safe from kra crashing waves. The waves were up to 18 feet in fight, rolling in every 20 seconds or so. One of those waves flipped the boat upside down, spilling the occupants into the water, they were not wearing life vests and were fortunate they werent seriously hurt or killed. When a boat overturns, most of the time somebody getting stuck underneath that boat or gets bumped in the head by something on that boat as it goes over and they were lucky to get away from the boat and not have that happen. Hayward, the fourth accident involving drunk drivers in the past month. Another officer was pinned under a car after being hit on highway 4 on january 16 and a few days later, another officer was hit in san jose. In three of those crashes, drunk driving is believed to be the cause. This has prompted the chp to further step up dui enforcement. Reporter chp officer drew williams says he didnt remember a time this many local chp officers have been killed or injured so close together. Its been a pretty tough month. 33yearold chp officer andrew camalari was killed when a drunk and possibly high driver was killed on the shoulder of southbound i880. The two officers were on a maximum enforcement patrol looking for drivers under the influence.
