Firework sellers are unable to sell even the lightest category of fireworks this year because they are not classed as essential shops, the Dutch pyrotechnics association has told the AD.
The government banned the sale of all category two and above fireworks this year but said the lowest category, which includes sparklers, can be sold. But this too is now out of the question because of the shop closures, Marcel Teunissen told the paper.
Drive-through initiatives have also been banned and although online sales are an option, fireworks cannot be delivered by normal means, ruling that out too, Teunissen said.
