The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency is preparing for a significant storm expected to impact the state with high wind and rain starting late Christmas Eve until about noon on Christmas Day.

Additionally, a Flood Watch has been issued for Rhode Island with a forecast of two to three inches of rain statewide. Along with the snowmelt, this may cause significant flooding of urban and poor drainage areas. Expect a Gale Warning for the coast as the storm approaches.

A massive winter storm is expected to roll into the region Wednesday evening and dump 8 to 12 inches of snow on most of Rhode Island before moving out Thursday, the National Weather Service says.
Most of Southern New England – and all of Rhode Island except Block Island – is under a storm warning until 1 p.m. Thursday for a nor easter that s also packing powerful winds and expected to cause some minor coastal flooding.
With the storm track having moved north, the coastal areas are likely to get 6 to 8 inches of snow. Block Island is expected to get just 1 to 2 inches, but that doesn t mean it s ducked the storm s punch.
