Editorial: Spring 2021 Report Card Administration: C- As we near a possible end to the COVID-19 pandemic and the spring 2021 semester, Binghamton University administration had a lot on their plate. However, in dealing with so many pressing issues, administrators often sought to place Pipe Dream in the middle of these problems rather than handling it themselves. For starters, Pipe Dream staff were surprised to receive an email from BU President Harvey Stenger asking us to look into complaints regarding unsanitary living conditions for students in quarantine housing. While Pipe Dream has reported on such issues twice, the administration has not spoken out about these conditions, delegating all investigative and public relations work to our student news team rather than the administrators employed to do so.

BU halts on-campus vaccination program despite approval of Johnson & Johnson vaccine Over 80 percent of students are vaccinated or are in the process of getting vaccinated, according to campus survey May 3, 2021 As the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine is greenlighted again by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Binghamton University has no plans on continuing the on-campus vaccination program. The University decided not to resume administering the J&J vaccine due to the result of a campus-wide survey regarding student vaccinations sent via email to students. According to Ryan Yarosh, senior director of media and public relations at BU, based on over 7,000 responses, the survey reported more than 80 percent of students are vaccinated or in the process of being vaccinated.

Tables graffitied, at least one bot damaged in Feb. 23 incident February 25, 2021 While Binghamton University continued to expand COVID-19 precautions on campus through the implementation of social distancing bots, the University Union was vandalized during surveillance testing hours on Tuesday. On Feb. 23, a woman entered Tillman Lobby and vandalized property within the University Union, including tables, doors and at least one social distancing bot. The social distancing bots were created to provide COVID-19 safety feedback to all pedestrians who pass by, providing impartial real-time feedback to all passersby in the interest of better supporting the communal safety of all students, faculty and staff.
