India is among five countries that have been added to the list of designated states from which passengers arriving into Ireland must enter Mandatory Hotel Quarantine.
From 4am on Tuesday 4 May, passengers coming from or having transited through Costa Rica, Georgia, India, Iran and Mongolia must enter quarantine at a designated hotel.
The Minister for Health said protecting public health is a priority for Government. The scenes we are witnessing in India are distressing and a devastating reminder to us all of the severe illness and death Covid-19 can cause. The Government will continue to act to protect the population from Variants of Concern and take decisions that reinforce Ireland s biosecurity, Stephen Donnelly said.
Minister for Health announces updates to list of designated States
The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD, has announced his intention to add an additional five States to the list of designated States. People arriving into Ireland from these States or transiting through them must complete Mandatory Hotel Quarantine.
The decision to add to the list of designated States was approved at a Government meeting earlier this week and the required consultation with other government departments has now taken place. Passengers from these States that arrive in Ireland after 04.00 on Tuesday, 4 May are required to enter quarantine in a designated hotel.

Special arrangements for passengers fully vaccinated with approved COVID-19 vaccines
Following updated advice from the Government’s Expert Advisory Group on Travel, the Minister for Health has amended the law on mandatory hotel quarantine such that an additional exemption now applies where a person can prove they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Arrivals seeking to avail of this exemption must have documentary evidence of having received a full course of one of the following vaccines
